NTT worked with Airspan, Cisco and Microsoft
to upgrade Cologne/Bonn Airport’s into P5G.
Cologne/Bonn Airport is an important commercial
airport in Germany, both for passengers and for
cargo. This project aims to advance in technological
innovations such as intelligent baggage and border
controls and improve the operational efficiency of
the airport.
Challenges
The network design must achieve a perfect mobile
phone coverage. The area is a 1,000 hectare site
that includes runways, terminals, airport buildings
and hangars – and can accommodate 14 million
passengers a year.
The network connection must be reliable to run the
airport’s applications such as machine sensors and
cloud-based services. It was also emphasized that
the network must be scalable and fail-safe in case
of downtime.
Solution & Benefits
With Airspan’s 5G solution’s NTT enhances the airport operations such as luggage handling and border
control which helped them to provide better service to airlines, passengers, commercial customers, and
employees. By utilizing P5G, Cologne/Bonn is also looking forward to innovate autonomous vehicles
and robots for transport of luggages and securing the property.
