Overview

COCUS, a leader in digital transformation solutions, partnered with Airspan Networks to equip the Port of Trier with a private 5G network, marking the 20th implementation of COCUS’s Campus2Go network and the third deployment in a German port. Airspan provided its 5G Open RAN suite of software and hardware solutions, supporting COCUS’s goal to transform port operations through automation and digitalization. The private 5G network allows for innovative use cases such a remote-controlled cranes, autonomous trucks, and real-time rail traffic analysis, significantly boosting operational efficiency.

Challenges

The Port of Trier faced challenges in digitizing its vast and diverse operations, including the need for real-time communication and autonomous vehicle control. Traditional networks could not provide the reliable, low-latency connections required for port logistics. In addition, the existing infrastructure lacked the necessary integration for modern automation technologies.

Solution & Benefits

Airspan’s 5G Open RAN solutions, integrated with COCUS’s Campus2Go private network, enables seamless data transmission and real-time operations management. Key benefits include remote control of cranes and ship loaders, autonomous truck navigation, and automated rail traffic control. The network also supports drone-based monitoring and bulk material measurement, optimizing operational workflows. This comprehensive 5G infrastructure provides not only secure, high-speed connectivity to boost efficiency but also a scalable solution for the Port of Trier, setting the stage for ongoing digital innovation.
