COCUS Selects Airspan Networks for Its 5G Open RAN-based Campus Private Network Solutions
- COCUS selects Airspan to be one of the first German companies to offer standalone 5G Open-RAN solutions
June 07, 2021— COCUS has selected Airspan Networks Inc. to provide its 5G Open RAN suite of software and hardware solutions for COCUS’s 5G standalone campus private network solutions in Germany. With this fully virtualized, cloud-native, and open architecture, COCUS is one of the first German providers to offer an in-house developed Open-RAN based 5G Packet Core for flexible, future-oriented, and hardware-independent 5G campus private network services.
Private 5G campus networks or Mobile Private Networks (MPN) are accessible for any company in Germany since the Federal Network Agency (BNetzA) issued dedicated 5G licenses for the industry. As a result, private networks have increasingly become an important extension of many corporate strategies and opened up completely new connectivity possibilities, especially for IoT and Industry 4.0 use cases.
As a long-standing IT solution provider, systems integrator, and mobile network expert, COCUS now offers its customers complete end-to-end 5G campus network solutions. In doing so, individual use cases are implemented using the Open-RAN (Open Radio Access Network) architecture from Airspan, the leading US provider for end-to-end Open RAN software and hardware solutions.
“Airspan’s selection and the successful certification of our own Packet Core software bring momentum to the German Open RAN 5G market. We are pleased to be on top and offer our customers robust, flexible, and thus also future-proof 5G campus network solutions,” said Oliver Hüttig, CEO COCUS AG.
Until now, companies were bound to respective manufacturers when operating private network solutions and were severely limited in the expansion and further development of existing components to new standards. The Open RAN approach, which is one of the core competencies of both Airspan and COCUS, now enables the necessary software and hardware components to be operated flexibly with each other in a 5G campus network. This approach provides important options for customers with regard to leveraging open interfaces for possible additions by various manufacturer components and solutions, as well as hardware solutions.
This opening of the previously manufacturer-bound interfaces enables companies to use standardized white-box hardware and software solutions from different providers across the board, as well as the seamless adaptation of new mobile communications standards. With 20 years of telecommunications experience, COCUS is the right choice for the smart future and a one-stop partner for industrial 5G solutions. As such, COCUS supports companies on their way to their own 5G campus network – from applying for licenses to planning and construction to development and operation of individual value-adding services.
“Providing private network solutions using 5G and Open RAN technology is becoming a large market, one for which we are prepared to provide solutions at scale,” said Giuseppe Bernini, Airspan Vice President of Sales, Europe. “Working with partners like COCUS is helping to enhance the ecosystem, which will accelerate the adoption of Open RAN.”
